Did you know there is one day every year to celebrate and raise awareness of values?

World Values Day is an annual, global event that invites individuals, communities, and organisations worldwide to reflect on their values and engage in actions that promote positive change.

We love this because our focus is on helping people to recognize the values that are important to them. This helps them unlock an inner strength so that they can lead change in their own lives, communities, schools, and organizations. It’s what values-based leadership is all about.

This year World Values Day is on Thursday, 19 October and the campaign theme is “Values Bring Us Together”.

With help from the team at World Values Day we have created three ways that you can get involved to celebrate values with us:

  1. 30 Days of Values

Values are the glue that hold our communities together. We all show our values in action every day, often without even realising why we’re doing what we do!  So, for the 30 days leading up to World Values Day (starting on Tuesday, 19 September) we’re going to shine a light on values by sharing a values-based-action every day on our social media platforms.

We’d love you to get involved in 30 Days of Values by taking part in some of the actions and sharing what you’re doing in the run up to World Values Day. Even simply sharing, liking, and commenting on our social media posts will help us to raise awareness of why values are so important.  The examples below give you an idea of how easy it is to carry out some of the actions and get involved!

When you post it would be great if you could use the hashtags #30daysofvalues #worldvaluesday and tag @columba1400 so that we can share what you’re up to.

Make sure you’re following us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram so you see our posts too and we’ll look forward to connecting with you there.

2. What values matter to you?

As well as our 30 Days of Values campaign, we’ve created a template for you to share what value is most important to you. You can find the templates here to print, complete and share on social media or send a picture to us at [email protected].

It would be fantastic if groups, our graduates, schools, partners, and organizations could use these to share what’s important to them. If you send your pictures to us, we’ll share them on our social media channels or if you post on your own social media channels please tag us @columba1400 and use the hashtag #worldvaluesday and #valuesmatter.

3. Workshop for schools

Our friends at World Values Day HQ have created a one-hour workshop to help schools to focus on their values for just one hour. The purpose is to look at your school’s existing values and reconsider how the staff and young people are really living their own and the school’s values, and find a way to get everyone re-engaged and re-energised. The workshop comes with a ready-made presentation and instructions which you can download here. It’s a great activity for schools to do in the run up to or on World Values Day.

If your school uses it, we’d love to hear about how it went. Simply email us at [email protected] or share on your social media tagging us @columba 1400 and using the #worldvaluesday
